ACPHS Library Services: Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan

ILLiad FAQs

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

The primary purpose of interlibrary loan (ILL) is to provide ACPHS students, faculty, administration, and staff with needed material that is unavailable in our library. The conditions of ILL services are set by local agreements, the policies of individual libraries, the National Interlibrary Loan Code, and the Copyright Law of the United States.

Policies

ILL services can obtain articles, books, and other media. There is no limit to the number of requests an individual may submit. Items that are not usually available through ILL include: whole issues/volumes of journals; films, DVDs, and videos; CDs; maps; software and CD-ROMs; rare, fragile, and special collection books; reference books; and some dissertations.

For students, requested materials should be related to their course of study and/or research; however, the Library will not obtain textbooks to replace the purchase of personal copies required by a class. For faculty, staff, and administration, requested materials should support the research or official work done within the scope of the mission of the College.

ILL services should not be used to obtain materials for personal matters. The Interlibrary Loan staff will refer persons making such requests to their local public library.

ILL services are provided free of charge to College community members; however, the individual user will be liable for lost, damaged, or overdue material. The lending library will determine costs, fines, and processing fees.

ILLiad

ILLiad

ILLiad is an online system that allows you to initiate and track your requests to borrow books and receive articles from other libraries.

Log in to ILLiad with your ACPHS network username and password to place requests for material, get information about the status of your requests (current and previous), request renewals, and receive electronic articles.

You must be a member of the ACPHS community to place requests. For first time users the Library will verify that you are a current and in good standing member of the ACPHS community before activating your account.

Processing Time

Your request will be processed as quickly as possible, but when you will receive the material depends on the lending library and type of material. To ensure timely delivery of materials from books, whenever possible request only the chapters you need. Chapters can be scanned if in accordance with copyright and sent electronically.

Renewals

To renew borrowed items, log in to ILLiad and choose View Checked Out Items/Renew or email your request directly to ILL@acphs.edu. Please request your renewal several days in advance of the due date. In the event that the lending library does not grant your renewal, this will allow you to return those materials to us on time. Renewal periods will vary according to the lending library's policies.
