Report from the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and Elon University’s Imagining the Digital Future Center based on a survey of 337 higher education leaders to examine generative AI tools’ current and future impacts on teaching and learning.
Generative AI (GAI) tools use machine learning models that are trained on large datasets to create text, images, or other new content (output) based on the prompts or instructions inputted by a user. The generated output are based on predictive patterns in the text that the models were trained on. The most common type of deep learning models are "large language models" which are used for text-based generative AI like ChatGPT.
It is important to understand the capabilities and limitations of all AI tools, and to fact check the content generated by AI.
