Tips

Journal articles should be cited using this format even if they are found online. Do not use the format for web pages to cite journal articles.


Abbreviations of journal titles conform to those found in the PubMed Journals Database. Enter the full title in the search field and locate the NLM title abbreviation

Names of all authors should be given unless there are more than 6, in which case the names of only the first 3 authors are used followed by "et al."

Format for Print & Online Journal Articles

Article author(s). Article title. Journal title abbreviated. Year Month Day of publication; volume number(issue number):inclusive pages.
